    Key Accomplishments of 2016-17

    Seattle Public Schools has made great progress working together with our students, families, staff, and community. Here is a quick snapshot of areas where we are growing, learning, and developing stronger relationships that will ensure we provide the best educational experience for all our students.

    Growing Public Trust:
    14 percent increase in satisfaction

    Seattle Public School students average nearly a full grade level above the national average (+0.9 grades)

    23 schools received Washington achievement awards and 11 schools of received awards of distinction in 2016-17

    1,600 Seattle children are now served by quality preschool programs, thanks to the City of Seattle and partners

    Graduation Gap Closing

    In 2014, 83 percent of white students graduated on time. In 2017, their graduation rate increased to 86 percent.

    In 2014, 60 percent of African-American students graduated on time. In 2017, their graduation rate increased to 72 percent. Most groups of students have seen significant increases in graduation rates over the last four years.

    Increased Enrollment (2007-17)

    8,000 more students enrolled in the last 10 years, and 29 newly constructed or replaced school buildings were developed to address increased enrollment and ensure high quality learning environments

    Academic Proficiency (2016-17) Seattle students continue to outperform Washington state.

    Students score 63 percent proficient versus Washington state students’ 53 percent on 3rd grade ELA. Seattle students score 63 percent proficient versus Washington state students’ 48 percent on 8th grade math.

    71 percent of Seattle Public School students that graduated with the class of 2016 enrolled in college during the first year after graduation

    Decreased Suspension Rates

    In 2012-13, suspension rates were 7.5 percent and in 2016-17, suspension rates were 4.6 percent for all students across the district
