Denny International Middle School Counseling Department focuses on the multicultural development of the whole child. Our mission is to provide each student with interpersonal leadership skills in acquiring a Global Perspective to achieve:
- Academic Excellence
- Personal Goals
- Social Responsibility
- World/Career Awareness
Our primary counseling goal requires all students to be committed and caring learners within a multicultural international school environment. Through collaborative efforts with parents, guardians, and staff, a supportive networking process enables all students to acquire the confidence, knowledge, and leadership qualities to become dynamic contributors in our global society.
As Counselors we believe…
we are there to serve the needs of our kids
in service to the whole child
in supporting each student’s academic, social, and personal needs
in encouraging the expression of talents and abilities
in the individuality of each child
that all students experience growth at their own pace
in providing encouragement to attain their goals
that each student is made to feel an essential part of our school community.
The MSSP After-School Academic Intervention program here at Denny International Middle School is an asset to the school population. In the last two years, it has expanded to serve over four-hundred Denny students and looks to break that number in the 2010-2011 school year. We have seen positive results in every aspect of these after-school interventions and we look forward to building on this foundation of success. This is the first year where all providers of after-school academic interventions (CLC Study Center, 8th Period Math and Denny University) are intentionally aligned with the mission:
- All students will reach grade level proficiency on the MAP and MSP
- Classroom grades will improve
- Students will be engaged, organized, and positive in their approach to learning and will be mentally prepared for High School
This alignment has allowed the MSSP coordinator position to develop a system for students to be recognized and placed in appropriate interventions to meet their specific academic needs. This has translated into more students being served and more positive academic and emotional growth of our students.

The Denny School-Based Health Center (SBHC) is a full service, in-school health clinic that provides physical and mental health care to the students of Denny International. The SBHC is operated by Neighborcare Health and partially supported by the Families and Education Levy and the City of Seattle. The SBHC offers a teen friendly setting and all the services (and more) of a family doctor, including immunizations, sports physicals, and health education. Our Mental Health services are provided on an individual and group basis and include treatment for depression, anxiety, stress and much more.
We accept medical coupons and most types of insurance. No student is denied service due to inability to pay. An eligibility specialist is also available who can help patients sign up for insurance. To access all of the offered services, complete the registration form and return it to the Denny SBHC. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 206-923-2809.

Sound Mental Health's Middle School Support Program and Communities In Schools of Seattle offers an integrated approach to addressing the complex needs of students struggling with academic and behavioral health problems, with the goal of reducing truancy and suspensions and supporting and improving academic performance. The goals are to improve behavioral health, including school behavior patterns of students with complex needs that require support from multiple service systems, facilitate collaboration within both the schools and behavioral/mental health community to assure consistency in response to behavioral concerns and integration of effective behavioral management strategies into the Student Learning Plan, and to deliver services that enhance and compliment Seattle Public School's Student Learning Plan and other academic improvement initiatives.
