6th Grade

6th Grade Science program overview:
Scientific Process, Science Lab and Safety Skills, Diversity of Life, Solutions and Pollutions, Magnets and Motors

6th Grade Science Fair project:
The 6th Grade students start by creating different research questions. They will have a choice of 6 of the strongest ones to do their science fair project on.  The labs are completed in class in pairs and their science fair projects use smaller boards.  The smaller boards help the students focus on the writing portion of the science project. The content of these boards can be transferred to larger boards that are the regulation size for the District Science Fair competition.

7th Grade

7th Grade Science program overview:
Energy Machines and Motion, Human Body Systems, Catastrophic Events

Denny has implemented a Robotics program for the 7th grade which the teachers used to supplement the district curriculum of Energy Machines and Motion. It addresses the weakness of the district curriculum which is application of science concepts and skills to solve human problems. As many of the projects are open-ended it allows for students to adapt the lesson depending on their level of experience and understanding.

7th Grade Science Fair project:
The 7th grade students work in partnerships and develop their own research question from one of the areas studied in 7th grade. They will write a research paper and get supported on each aspect of the lab report in class but will be doing the experiment independently either at home or after school. Science fair support by teachers, high school students, and parents will be available on select days after school. The 7th grade students use boards that are the regulation size for the district Science Fair competition. They can make improvements on the board after the Denny Science Fair, before going to the district competition.
